Default Banned Books Week???

I understand restricting access of certain materials to minors... (Elfen lied as an example) especially from elementary and middle school libraries. Why high schools too? By the time you are in high school you should be mature enough to handle the "very limited" amount of sex, sexual innuendo, and the violence.

Here is something I just saw on Anime News Network. I would go to great lengths to describe it for you, but it would be better if you read it yourself.

LINKY

I'm really surprised they banned Dragon ball. So what if it has a panty shot or two, and not to mention goku takes Bulma's panties off which results in her flashing Master Roshi with her everything. The only thing you see is goku with panties on his head, and roshi with another nose-bleed.

Your thoughts?

May 2010: The mother of an Albuquerque high school student campaigned for the banning of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's manga Death Note, saying that "killing is just not something we should put out there for our kids to read in this way." The city's public schools committee met to discuss the possibility of a ban, but voted unanimously against it.
My response: STFU lady.

But seriously, what a joke, porn mags are sold at the counter of news agent's but they cant handle a little bit of violence neatly wrapped up in a plausible and engaging storyline. A sad sad day for common sense.

Here in Poland, media tend to "approve" the violence more than sex. Let's say: we've got a game (or movie, manga, whatever) with slight erotic content. Or even not really erotic, but with nudity with no erotic context. And there's a game/whatever with TONS of violence. Arm, leg, brain on the wall. Literally.

Now, guess which one will be more likely to be banned or at the very least condemned by mass media?

No, you are wrong. It will be the one that shows a bit of a butt. Because slaughtering everything that moves and does not climb the trees is perfectly fine, but seeing a bit of a skin (no matter if it's real actors', rendered or drawn...) will turn you into a psychopath. Remember that I'm not talking about actuall sex scenes or anything that would be explicit. Yeah, pure logic, ain't it?

Im wondering if they have even bothered to just open one of the mangas and look on just a few pages.. I mean wtf, Dragonball got banned because
Quote:
The ban came as the result of a complaint from a nine-year-old's parent that the manga "depicts nudity, sexual contact between children, and sexual innuendo among adults and children
... When does sexual contact between children occur?? An when Bulma flashes her you-know-what to Roshi, she is 16... In my country it means that she isnt underaged for sex anymore (you get "bukse-myndig"(trouser auth) when you get 15) and can flash if she wants... eventhough she tought that she was flashing pants.. Yes, sometime the language is a bit... off.. but with all those video games and television programs... it shouldnt matter that much... If they ban Dragonball manga, they have to ban the anime, the games, the toys.. the damn T-shirts!! You cant ban something in one media, if you think its bad and then let it continue in another media...

AND I think that Death Note is a perfect way to show kids "death".. Because then they learn that killing is bad no matter what the reason is! And they learn a bit of mythology with the shinigamis... I bet it is because MisaMisa gather up those girls to "please" those old men from the company (cant remmeber the name of it), with being in small dresses and lean up against the men... And because the old Kira wanted to mary Misa, eventhough there is such a big gab between those two in age..

This is as ridicilus as to ban hentai... Because again, this is drawn, no real persons where harmed... and if your child goes around and flashes panties after reading DB, it is not the manga there is something wrong, sorry to tell you that lady... I think you need to hand over you child to the men in white coats then...

People are just making a big fuss out of nothing. i don't read manga but I hate it when people are doing this. Mangas are just drawings and people are banning drawings. What about those statue, real life pictures and whatnot which are naked? I don't recall people trying to ban those thing. And there are also a bunch of pron magazines out there but still people don't ban that.

I've learned not to get worked up over these things... People will always try to find something to blame for things like that, and manga is just the pick of the week. :/

You're damn right, Ryo. Maybe after this they'll ban anime. Who knows.

It's only a matter of time until someone tries to ban all media altogether... I mean, they all have the possibility of negative influence, and eventually someone is going to try to use that fact... :/
